Stage setting and theatre improvisation – Theatre and archive footages
Work around the dialectic between archive images and personal feeling. Work around empathy.
Archives used : Amateur archives from PhotoART Centrum collection, and archives from Institut National de l’Audiovisuel already selected in the corpus of the local creation and education project « Anima ».
Results : Sequence shots of little piece of theatre around the dream issue, acted in front of an archive image, directed and sound composed by participants.
Summary of the methodology proposed:
After a first viewing of archives corpus in group, each participants has chosen his/her most striking image. The group exchange permitted each participant to go further on the definition of the deeper reasons of their archive image choice. Which feeling the image causes in each participant? What can I see from me in this image? Then, each participant has chosen a physical action that could be the metaphor on stage of the feeling inspired by the chosen archive image. Then, around each striking image and its corresponding physical action, the group built the stage direction of a dream inspired by the archive images. The dreamer becomes protagonist and stage director. The archive images are also an element of a possible set, projected on a big screen.
This work on the dialectic between archive images, personal feeling and self-narrative, enabled participants to translate a feeling into a schedule of actions, in order that the scene becomes a metaphor, shared with the others. Each protagonist leaned on the help of the group as in the writing, as in the direction of the sequence, in order that the others share each dream standing as actors. This process permits to pass the initial feeling without revealing what has been felt at the beginning in relationship to the image.
